Absolutely gorgeous and rare antique tested 12k gold Damascene figural inlay or overlay & faux tortoise shell hair comb with ornate scrolling vines or tendrils, lion head & detailed center figural medallion featuring profile of soldier in Spanish Conquistador style Morion helmet! Exquisitely intricate inlay, it tests as at least 12k gold and is as stunning as can be! The lion figure at the top center and the figural profile is actually raised from the surface while the rest of the decoration is inlaid in the Damascene fashion. Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another—typically, gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background—to produce intricate patterns similar to niello. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. Truly remarkable, both the process and end result as you can see here. A work of art! Jewelry for the hair and in pristine condition, don't miss it!
Excellent condition. I see no flaws to note whatsoever, just gorgeous front and back. See pictures for all measurements.
