Absolutely gorgeous and rare antique tested 14k gold Damascene figural inlay or overlay & faux tortoise shell hair comb with ornate scrolling vines or tendrils, a tiny winged griffin or gryphon figure and in wonderful condition! Very intricate inlay, it tests as at least 14k gold and is as beautiful as can be! Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another—typically, gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background—to produce intricate patterns similar to niello. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. Truly remarkable, both the process and end result as you can see here. A work of art! Jewelry for the hair and in pristine condition, don't miss it!
Very good condition. If you look closely, it appears that both of the tines or teeth have slightly chipped tips. I'd be happy to sand them down gently before sending out if you'd like, just be sure to let me know when purchasing. I see no other flaws to note whatsoever, just gorgeous front and back. See pictures for all measurements.
