As close to perfect as these ever come, you see a spectacular c.1820-30 French Palais Royal sewing set in remarkable condition. Arrow scabbard needle case has the 18k gold medallion with kiln-fired enamel pansy/flower which affirms it was original sold through the famed Palais Royal boutiques of the old palace of Cardinal Richelieu. Trim on the hand carved mother of pearl implements test 18k gold. The tiny coin-sized scent or perfume or salts flask has 18k gold cap with bale, can be worn as a pendant, and still has stopper and no damage at all. A unique crossed arrow silk winder tucks beneath the handle of the scissors, and even the bodkin (ribbon stringing needle) is perfect. Case is superb, not even scratched on the bottom. It is as if this one was gifted and tucked away and never used at all. A single flaw is that the 18k gold pansy medallion on the stiletto handle must have gone missing over time and someone has painted one on. In general display, not much noticeable but I'll note it here. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I feel like it's been more a souvenir than an item ever put to use. These rarely come to market in such fine original condition. As noted above, all original pieces here, intact, not broken. A mention, as above, that the 18k gold and enameled medallion on the stiletto is the only missing item and someone at some time has actually painted a replacement. A close look at it exposes it, but in display it won't draw attention. RARE! Exceptional. Still has original mirror inside lid, original silk pad with chenille trim (protects tools and mirror). Hinge is perfect, clasp is perfect, no warp to the box, amazing fine condition for age!
