Some things, when they sell, I regret selling forevermore. This! Sometimes referred to as a slipper bench and used at the foot of a bed, this one is my own favorite and long used as part of a living room conversation area, as shown. As you'd expect, I buy only the very best pieces, particularly if I'm keeping them. Imported this one from France years ago, and it's just as charming and lovely now as when it was first created. The carved wood is without much more than a rub - no breaks, no restorations or repairs. The original upholstery needlepoint and petit point tapestry made for it remains undamaged and in place with its full hobnail trim. In one photo you see a measuring tape stretched across the finest stitches so you can see they're truly micro. Each of course completed one at a time by hand, worked in silk and wool yarns on a strong canvas. The colors remain bright and vibrant, and it truly will work in any room, modern to Country French, to Traditional and Old Chateau. Imagine all the stories to which it's been privy, around 200 years old now. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, no breaks to the hand carved wood frame, no chips - a few light rubs, perhaps, which you may wish to touch up. All the more charming to me, an antique lover. The needlepoint is a fabulous one, a revival of 1750s France's Romantic Era theme. No tears, holes, and not more than a few tiny stitches missing and open to being re-embroidered there or not. All the romance of an era so far removed from our own, yet its stories will outlive us all. I think it's padded with a combination of horsehair and excelsior (wood shavings) typical of the day. From bottom, you can see one end of a spring pokes through the old cloth, so likely should have it re-tied if you intend much sitting. No slope to the top - it's just superb!
