Fabulous & rare antique French Louis Philippe to Napoleon III era 17" wide ebaniste's apprentice or miniature Bru doll sized chest of drawers with richly burled veneers, turned wood & brass bow, ribbon & garland accenting and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! Many of the antique doll collectors search for these old one-of-a-kind cabinetry maker's apprentice chests to use as furnishings, furniture for their doll houses or displays. They're sized about right, it's true, but they're really the "maitrise" or test, essentially, of the development of the apprentice as his skills are mastered. The small furniture is the assigned task so he can prove he has mastered both design, completion of various skills, and also the miniature production of the hardware he incorporates. This one dating from the Louis Philippe to Napoleon III eras surely and both the detail and visual appeal are superb! A beautiful mix of darker wood with the lighter burled drawer faces and ormolu or brass accents. Fabulous!
Very good to excellent condition for age, etc. There are some old worm/bug holes visible here and there but nothing active of course. There is a veneer 'repair' or restoration of sorts on the bottom rear of the right side. Original turned feet and the top drawer has the original working lock with key.
