RARE Victorian era Gritzner c. 1878 treadle sewing machine: Max Carl Gritzner (1825 - 1892)started to manufacture sewing machines in 1872 in the small town of Durlach in Germany. The business prospered and by 1902 it was celebrating the production of its one millionth machine, making it one of Germany's largest manufacturers. This one I own is excellent, inlaid mother of pearl on the machine and intricate wood parquet table and case. Key to drawer's lock, the machine cabinet cover only releases when drawer is opened.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Cabinet is exquisite parquet, no damage. Machine appears to work, has not been used and might need engagement of the cord, which is present. Very heavy, the machine looks like Victorian papier mache and is inlaid with mother of pearl, but it is heavy iron or steel. Beautiful display or to use.
