Fabulous vintage English sterling silver & blue guilloche enamel 6pc vanity brush or grooming set including hand mirror, four brushes, comb and original fitted box with Harrod's marked pad! A few small flaws to this set but isn't it gorgeous! A brilliant blue enamel with that engraved guilloche pattern make them just shimmer in the light. The frames are all in London hallmarked sterling silver and likely date to around the 1930-40s. Stunning and rare!
The history of this famous luxury store goes back to 1849 when Charles Henry Harrod opened a grocery at Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, at the time a small village just outside London. Just two years later, the Great Exhibition of 1851, which took place at Crystal Palace in nearby Hyde Park, brought many visitors to the area. Knightsbridge and Harrod's new store boomed.
Charles Harrod's son (also named Charles) took over and quickly expanded the store, at the time known as 'Harrods Stores'. The department store became well known for its high quality products and excellent personalized service.
Very good condition. As you can see, one of the brushes has three 'worn' marks on its handle, they don't really look like chips as the enamel edges are not sharp but they're there and worth noting. Also, the faux tortoise shell comb is missing a few teeth but, find the right length and that's easily replaced. See pictures for all measurements.
