Oh, what a thrill when I found this painting. Isn't it magnificent! French Impressionist, unsigned (how can that be! She is superb!). It appears her canvas has been re-stretched but not reduced in size, which occurrence might have lost the signature. But, no, you see the entire painting. Were she my work, I'd certainly have wanted to sign and claim it. Wooden stretchers and a firm restoration of a 19th century painting now backed by a strong canvas to preserve her. I fell in love with this one. She will keep you enthralled, and works for modern through to antique decor. The painting is good sized, wonderful with or without a frame, though it appears she has once been framed (see far left side). What I hoped would turn out to be a signature scratched into oil paint, lower right, might well be but it's just a scribble I can't identify at all. Oh, that face! The pose! The delicate treatment of her hands, and the intriguing intimate interior, as well. Stunning work of art!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, superb composition and execution of this subject. The painting is 23" x 20", intimate but not small. She'll want to hang where she can be lighted well. There are no holes, no tears, the painting is a thrill and one can hope her artist can be identified somehow. I'm not prepared to do the research on her. I'm looking for wall space for her right now. Don't leave her with me long or I'll end up pulling her from shop and keeping her. She is just in from France, yesterday. A constant influx of beautiful old treasures, she stands out - took my breath away. I do still love what I do. People tell me it shows.
