Inventory we've had for decades, but put away, now being pulled from crates to close out. This is my favorite antique tortoise shell case, very fine condition and with an interior lining of black silk moire which will show off your favorite pearls, gold jewelry, or pocket watches, or even a couple of portrait miniatures. I've used these as display cases, partially open and filled with micro mosaic plaques. These were originally made to house a pocket watch to one side (slight carved space in the wood on top and bottom of box), and a watch chain to the other side. Decades ago I had several but this is the finest and last one. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, this is mid-1800s, not later than 1870. The case is wood with elegant tortoise shell veneer, none of which is missing. It has no bug bites, no lost veneer, and all 4 of the little clamp clasps are intact and work fine. No warp to the box, it closes smoothly and tightly. Beautiful cognac to chocolate mottled coloration is finest quality, satin sheen.
