A beautiful piece of French furniture, this is an entirely hand and lathe carved sturdy oak bench or stool, typical of those near a kitchen fireplace in Country French homes, tight, undamaged, and very sturdy, 13 1/2" tall and with a 12" square-ish seat, one could certainly use it as a plant stand, a foot stool or bench/stool. Beautiful old world craftsmanship, I've had this one for decades. Tight joints and very sturdy. Step stool for kitchen? Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent, mid-1800s hand made furniture with all the charm inherent in Country French styling. Too pretty to have been a milking stool, though I suppose it could have been. No wood issues, sturdy as can be, and charming beside a fireplace as a slipper or warming bench. Beautiful patina to the wood.
